Olive and Burgundy Eye Look: Sleek Au Naturel Palette

Olive (along with purple) is one of my favourite shades for eyes. Nothing like a kickass olive shade for adding a bit of colour while still remaining neutral. When I got my Sleek Makeup Au Naturel Palette, I simply couldn't wait to use this olive shade - it really is just so pretty! I decided to pair it with the burgundy shade just next to it, because I thought olive and burgundy would be a cool colour combination. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you view it), the entire look turned out to be a lot more neutral than I planned.

For this look I used Cappucino, the light nude beige shade, Moss, a dark olive green shade with some gorgeous shimmer, and Conker, a purple-burgundy shade that is also pretty darn stunning. I thought olive and purple/burgundy would be a colour combination that would provide some contrast, but the net effect is a lot more muted than I thought it would be.

I used Cappucino on the browbone area to highlight, Moss on the lid, and Conker in the contour area and in the outer corner. For some reason, Conker seems to photograph browner than it really is in real life. When paired with Moss, it actually looks a little bit more burgundy-brown and less purple. Pretty cool, huh?

As always, I didn't have much trouble with getting the colours in the Sleek Au Naturel Palette to show up, or getting them to blend. Generally, pigmentation and blendability are very good when it comes to the Sleek Makeup palettes, especially for the shimmer shades. Looking at these photos now though, I am wondering if perhaps I overblended in creating this eye look, and perhaps that's why the look turned out to be more tame than I thought. Still, I gotta admit, that olive shade is beyond gorgeous, though. In real life, I was totally ogling my own eyelids - the Moss shade was just so beautiful.

I do like this look, and I think this look just shows the variability of looks that can be created with the Au Naturel Palette - although it's a nude palette and one full of neutral shades, the range of shades is enough for you to create a whole range of looks. Not just the "light beige on the lid, deep brown in the crease" type of workaday looks, but also the deeper, more dramatic ones. As a big neutrals fan, I definitely know how hard it can be to find that perfect neutral shade that isn't boring, and I'm glad this palette attempts to provide a range of such shades.
