Yellow Nails: I Actually Lurve Them! (AKA NOTD With Etude House Glittering Bloom Yellow)

Summer is coming, and all the brands are starting to put out their summer collections, and my nails are officially yellow! This is actually a really rare thing for me. If there are any longtime readers of my blog (love, love, love you guys!), you may vaguely remember that a long, long time ago, I had actually painted my nails yellow before, and I couldn't actually quite make up my mind as to whether I liked it or not. So I painted it that once, decided that maybe it wasn't really my cup of tea, and then I never wore it again. Or at least, I thought I would. You can see how that one turned out!

Indeed, for awhile, I was happy to not wear any yellow on my nails, and life carried on. But then, the yellow itch started. I started wanting to wear yellow. And as luck would have it, I happened to pick up a bottle of Etude House LUCIDarling Fantastic Nails Nail Polish in the colour 04 Glittering Bloom Yellow. The LuciDarling range has four sub-ranges, each with a different shimmer finish - Shimmering, Glittering, Sparkling, and Sequins. Although you can't really tell, this is from the Glittering sub-range. There are actually find bits of really tiny discrete glitter inside the polish, but they don't really show up all that much on my nail at all. I guess you can kinda see them if you really hold them right up to your nose and if the sun hits the nail just right...but otherwise, it looks like any other creme finish when applied.

So anyway, back to the story. As luck would have it, I decided to try out my Etude House LuciDarling etc etc Glittering Bloom Yellow (what a long name) polish on my nails. And, to my surprise, I LIKED IT. And not just liked it. I LURVED it! I don't know what happened between my ancient-by-internet-standards 2010 post and now, but somehow, along the way, I morphed into a yellow-nail-polish-loving being without ever having worn yellow along the way. I guess a couple of years can do a lot, huh? I don't know how or why this change occured, but I have a few theories: 1. All my nail polish wearing and nail blogging over the years has slowly desensitized me to nail colour, so much so that I can now tolerate and like nail colours I couldn't before. Or 2. Spring/summer season is coming, and this makes me want to wear a summery colour. Or 3. I was kidnapped and replaced by an identical-looking alien. I don't know which of these is more likely. (Can you tell I'm in a relaxed mood writing this? I'm actually including jokes and attempting to be funny and stuff! The yellow shade must be working its cheery magic...)

Anyway, application on this was like most yellow nail polishes - which is to say, you need multiple coats to get full opacity. What you see here is three coats of medium thickness, and I couldn't have done with less. This had average lasting power on me, around 4 days before the first noticable chip appeared, which is my usual. Other than the fact that I need three coats to get full coverage, I didn't have many application issues - the brush was a little on the skinny side but was fine, and the polish itself was alright in consistency and texture. Colour-wise, this is pretty much what I'd call a primary yellow shade, the kind you'd see on colour wheels. I actually really like it. It reminds me of summer, sunshine, and sunflowers - all happy things!

In fact, I loved this colour so muuch, I wore it to work for one entire week, and while the colour passed mostly unnoticed, I had a couple of colleagues comment that my nails were too bright and distracting for a Monday morning. (I was secretly pleased. Hehe.) Also, while I was snacking at work (this is why I'm getting so fat), I realized that my nails matched the Pretz box! Isn't that totally cool? So, well, here's a lousy blurry iPhone photo of my nails, and the Pretz box! (Damn iPhone camera makes my cuticles look like crap.)

So, that's my foray into yellow. And unlike last time, where I wimped out and couldn't quite decide if I liked it or not, this time I know I love it. Come to think of it, perhaps i should revisit the yellow shade I wore back then (Maybelline Banana Puddin', a really ancient colour) and see if I would like it more! In fact, I think I should revisit all the colours I thought were too outrageous for me to wear, and I bet I would at least like half of them now!
