Palladio is a US-based beauty brand, that's probably better known for its cosmetics that include vitamin and herb-based ingredients. The brand is somewhat niche within the US due to its limited distribution (when I was there, I only recall seeing it at some Sally Beauty stores), but nevertheless, it still has a good customer base with strong reviews, and some of its better-known products are the Velvet Matte Lip Creams (as well as other lip products), Rice Powder and foundations. Palladio is now coming to Singapore, and fortunately is much easier to get here than the US, with some Guardian stores carrying the brand. So, I figured now is a perfect time to do a review on some of their products!

Palladio Velvet Matte Lip Cream Color: One of Palladio's cult products

Since Palladio's Velvet Matte Lip Cream Color is one of the brand's more popular products, having received lots of rave reviews, I figured that these were probably a great place to start! I have three shades, Sateen, Brocade, and Boucle, that I'm reviewing today, and these are probably my favourite shades from the entire range.

Palladio Velvet Matte Lip Cream Color: Since the brand is new to Singapore, I figured I should try these first!

So, let's get on to the review! Unfortunately for some reason I wasn't able to find the ingredients list for the product - the ingredients list wasn't printed on the individual tubes, nor could I find it online. But, I do have lots of swatches for you!

Palladio Velvet Matte Lip Cream Color: A doe-foot applicator, but still requires some care due to the massive pigmentation of the product

The Palladio Velvet Matte Lip Colors have a doe foot applicator, although for more precise application, you might still prefer a lip brush, particularly for the bolder or darker colours, where imperfect application can appear really obvious.

And let's move on to swatches. Although I have to say, the thing about liquid lipsticks like these are that the way the shade appears in the tube, the way the lip cream swatches on the skin, and the way it actually looks when applied on lips, are often three different shades altogether! So this is why I always recommend testing them out on the lips in person if possible (although it can be difficult because I don't recommend using applying testers to your lips!). You'll see what I mean when we start looking at the swatches. So first, some arm swatches!

Palladio Velvet Matte Lip Cream Color Swatches Review Boucle Brocade Raw Silk
Palladio Velvet Matte Lip Cream Color Swatches: Brocade, Boucle, Raw Silk

Brocade is a red-pink shade, and is pretty bright. On my lips it looks a lot brighter than in this swatch!
Boucle, when swatched on my arm, looks like a deep rosy brown, that would look flattering on everyone. On my lips, this pulled a lot more brown.
Raw Silk is a rosy nude when swatched on my arm. On my lips, it actually is almost the same shade as my lips, except more brown and grey.

Another nice thing about the Velvet Matte Lip Creams is that although they're matte, they're not too dry. You can see from the swatches that it doesn't get dry or flaky, and when I wore these, they pretty much stayed moist throughout, although of course the tradeoff is that they do shift and budge more easily. Aboveis another photo of the swatches, just so you can see their more moist texture.

And now that we're done with arm swatches, let's move on to the lip swatches! Like I mentioned, how these lip tints appear in the tube, swatch on skin, and swatch on lips are totally different shades, and you'll soon see why!

Palladio Velvet Matte Lip Cream Color Brocade Swatch Review
Palladio Velvet Matte Lip Cream Color Lip Swatch: Brocade

Brocade is swatched above, and I'm not sure if you can see it in the photo, but it is a lot brighter on my lips. It almost looks like a hot pink! Still, this is a very pretty shade, very bright and summery.

Palladio Velvet Matte Lip Cream Color Raw Silk Review
Palladio Velvet Matte Lip Cream Color Lip Swatch: Raw Silk

Raw Silk is swatched above, and as you can see, although it looks like a neutral nude in the arm swatches, on my lips it looks kinda grey. It's actually the exact same shade of my lips, but more grey and brown, so while it looks trendy in a "Kylie Jenner lip" kind of way, it isn't exactly my favourite when worn because the grey tint seems to throw the entire colour off. I imagine this would look different on different people though, so someone else might find it more flattering.

Palladio Velvet Matte Lip Cream Color Boucle Review
Palladio Velvet Matte Lip Cream Color Lip Swatch: Boucle

Lastly, Boucle is swatched above. On my lips, it looks like a darker, browner version of Raw Silk. It basically looks almost brown on my lips, which is another trendy "Kylie Jenner"-type shade. While such shades aren't exactly my preference, I think anyone who is in search of a Kylie Jenner lip on the cheap could definitely consider these two shades. Raw Silk would probably look better on fairer skintones, and Boucle would look better on deeper skintones. Both shades are fairly neutral so they should do well on a variety of skintones.

Palladio Velvet Matte Lip Cream Color: A very moist lip cream, that does smudge and smear if you wipe your lips

When I wore the Matte Lip Creams, I found that while they had good staying power if I didn't eat, drink or otherwise do anything to my lips (e.g. wipe my mouth), they did fade and smear quite fast once I started eating and drinking. On the bright side, these pretty much stayed moist all the way on my lips, and felt a little bit like a creamy liquid lipstick. Pigmentation was also good, so I found that this wasn't exactly great when I was rushing to apply my lip product early in the morning - the colours pop so much that any messy application became pretty obvious. But when I did get it right, it was a stunning look! These are easily removed at the end of the day with a oil-based makeup remover.

Palladio Velvet Matte Lip Cream Color: A great drugstore buy, with excellent pigmentation and a moist texture

So, would I recommend these? Yes, if you are looking for a liquid lipstick that's well-pigmented, inexpensive, and moist. Perhaps the only trade off is that it has comparatively less staying power, but I guess it's hard to balance a moisturizing lip colour with one that has staying power. But at S$8.90, I really am not going to complain about the quality - this is probably one of the highest-quality matte liquid lipsticks you can get for less than S$10! And since Palladio is new in Singapore, they do have some promotions that you can keep up with on their Instagram page.

The Bottom Line: Palladio's Velvet Matte Lip Cream Color is a great drugstore buy, with excellent pigmentation, and a moist, creamy texture.

(Product was sent for review. Review is my complete and honest opinion. I am not affiliated with/compensated by the company.)
