Anyway, I have to say, I'm super proud of myself for producing these swatches in less-than-optimal lighting. You see the photo above? Yup, that's basically the lighting conditions I had. But, I think the swatches did turn out pretty nicely given the lighting conditions, and I managed to get most of the shades, so without further ado, let's start on the swatches, together with my commentary on them!
Givenchy Rouge Interdit Lipstick Swatches: Shades 01 - 06
01 Nude Ravageur is described as a "Very Natual Beige", and that's sort of accurate. It's also pretty sheer and light, so this might be more appropriate on lighter skintone.
02 Beige Indecent is described as an "Orangey Nude", and indeed the main difference between this and Nude Ravageur is that it is more beige/orange and less pink. Again, this is a pretty pale, sheer shade that looks best on lighter skintones.
03 Rose Mutin is described as a "Cold Nude Pink", and it's a sheer, pale, pastel babydoll pink. Very sweet and girl, and again, this would probably look better on lighter skintones.
04 Rose Tenateur - now we're talking some shades that are more my style! Rose Tenateur is a "Luminous Antique Pink", and this is a very pretty neutral pink, that would look good on a variety of fair-to-medium skintones. This is a pretty shade.
05 Rose Transgressif is described as a "Luminous Cold Pink", and it's a shade or two darker and less pastel than Rose Mutin, but otherwise very much in the same vein. This is a cooltoned light rose pink shade.
06 Rose Sulfureux is another gorgeous shade. This is described as a "Vivid Intense Pink", but it's actually pretty wearable, because you can wear this either sheer, or built up for more pigmentation. Again, I think this is a great colour for a variety of skintones and undertones.
Givenchy Rouge Interdit Lipstick Swatches: Shades 07 - 13
07 Fuchsia Illicite is simply described as "Fuchsia", and yup, this is a cooltoned fuschia shade with the slightest hint of plum. it's pretty wearable, as far as bright pink shades go, and has great pigmentation, with not much repeated strokes needed to build up the colour.
08 Orange Magnetique is a bright orange shade, and probably best on warmer-toned skin. it's got pretty good pigmentation, and not much layering is needed to get a good amount of colour.
09 Coral Redoutable - I'm not sure if I got the right lipstick in this swatch, because it's a bit odd to see a lighter shade in the middle of all these brights, but this was what the tube said! The testers were being swatched and played with by a whole bunch of people, so it's possible that someone put the wrong lipstick tube back into the wrong cap. In any case, this is described as "Coral" and, if this is indeed the right shade, is a sheer light coral.
10 Rouge Provocant is described as a "Reddish Pink", and this is in the red territory, but a pretty cool-toned red with some pink thrown in.
11 Rouge Rebelle is a "True Red", and this is similar to Rouge Provocant, but with a warmer undertone.
12 Grenat Envoutant is described as a "Raspberry", but this is a bit more of a plum shade to me. It definitely has a purple lean to it, and is a wearable pop of colour. This is one of my personal favourite shades from the range. The purple lean means that it would look better on cooler skintones than warmer ones.
13 Rose Desirable is also another of my personal favourites, and is described as a "Natural Rosewood". This is another gorgeous "great for most skintones and undertones" type of colours, and would be pretty universal. It's basically a lovely pinky-brown shade with a neutral undertone.
Givenchy Rouge Interdit Lipstick Swatches: Shades 13, 15
After I thought I had swatched all the shades, I found one last shade I hadn't swatched. I swatched Rose Desirable next to it, just for comparison - you can see that Moka Renversant is much darker than the rest of the shades.
15 Moka Renversant looks like a dark brown in the tube, but it actually goes on sheer, and turns your lips into a sort of "my lips but better" shade, deepening your natural lip colour. It's described as "Sweet Auburn", and is surprisingly flattering.
Apparently there was a last shade, Noir RƩvƩlateur, which looks black in the tube but goes on as a sheer deepened plum, but unfortunately I didn't get to swatch that!
My first impressions of the Givenchy Rouge Interdit Vinyl Lipsticks is that they're very nice quality. The pigmentation is sheer, but buildable to greater coverage, and the finish is very shiny and glossy. They feel very moisturizing too, without being sticky or tacky, and I imagine for those with dry lips, these will be a godsend. At S$48 each, they're not the cheapest lipsticks around, but they are indeed very luxe.
These are AMAZING swatches for that lighting! Well done!
ReplyDeleteIf the lipstick colors look that good with that lighting...! I normally don't use beige or brown hues but that last one? I sooo want to try! Or Rose Sulfureu, because both the name and shade are gorgeous! (ah, my wallet... I'll keep this in mind for next christmas or something :'D)
