Etude House Color Lips Fit Review and Swatches

Etude House, the Korean brand known for its girly, affordable yet quality products, has launched their newest line of lip products, the Color Lips Fit. This is a lip tint type of product, which made me happy, because after having been to Korea I realized how popular these seem to be and am now officially a huge fan of liptints. It is, however, slightly different from your typical liptint.

Etude House Color Lips Fit: Bright, pigmented, yet lightweight colour.

The Color Lips Fit are touted to deliver a bright blast of colour, yet feel weightless and non-sticky on the lips. There are a range of seven colours, all bright shades, from bright reds to pinks oranges to beiges (yes there is a bright beiges) and a top coat. The topcoat is useful because the shades dry matte. I have two colours, PK003 Fantasy Fit Pink, and BE101 See-Thru Fit Beige, as well as the topcoat, to review.

First up, let's get down to business with the swatches. You can't really tell from the arm swatches, but these colours are very bright. Like neon kind of bright. My camera just gave up on registering those shades, I think. I took quite a few photos and none of them were 100% accurate. As you can see from the swatches, the formula dries matte.

Now, here is PK003 on my lips. This is a warm pink shade, very bright and very pale. I know the term "bright and pale" sounds like a contradiction, but it is a pastel shade of warm pink-coral, and neon. Think MAC's Betty Bright Lipstick - this is somewhere along those lines, but brighter, and paler. It doesn't look like it in the photo because, my camera kind of got confused by the brightness of these shades.

Next, BE101. From the name, you might think that it's a nude beige, but it's really a colour that's more like beige crossed with orange. It's a warm shade, and again, very bright. I can't think of an exact colour match, but maybe MAC's Tangerine Kiss Lipstick, except again, brighter and paler.

You can see from these swatches that the Color Lips Fit dries down matte, to a kind of powdery-ish finish. In that way, it's definitely unique compared to other liptints, which tend to be creams, or else liquids. This gives it a lightweight feel, certainly - no sticky liquid on your lips - but at the same time, the powdery finish has its own challenges. I'm not sure if you can see it, but it has the potential to have tricky application, because the powdery liquid can be tricky to get an even coat of. So I'd advise you to work once, but carefully, and applying a good amount to get just one even coat of pigment down. You can see some small minor patches where application was uneven in both my photos, but it's not hugely noticeable. It also has the potential to settle into fine lines in your lips - again, you can see a little of this coming up in my swatches, but it's not very apparent in the photos.

Having the topcoat smooths out the texture of the powder, and makes it a lot glossier. I find that it also helps to mask any uneven application. Of course, if clear gloss is your thing, you can also wear it alone. This might be a good way out if you are experiencing issues with the application, or with it seeping into fine lines.

When I wore these, they lasted about half a day on me. This is with me eating and drinking. I found that if you're eating dry foods (say, a biscuit or something), the Color Lips Fit liptints handle this pretty well. But if you eat anything oily and wet (say, really oily soups), then the tints will fade partially as you eat. I also found it best not to rub my lips excessively when wearing these, because you may dislodge the powdery layer on top of your lips, and make it look uneven. After all, the Color Lips Fit works by depositing a layer of product on your lips, rather than staining them the way some tints do. But, that said, you'd have to rub your lips together REALLY hard to shift the powder layer (I was rubbing my finger on my lip just to test), so I'd say, vigorous rubbing aside, it does stay on pretty well through my daily activities.

So, would I recommend this? I guess it would depend on a couple of things. If you can handle the powdery-liquid feel of the product (which might take some getting used to for those who are used to slick, glossy lip products), and if you don't have any severe lip lines, or dry or flaky lip skin, this is probably a good way to get a super-pigmented, bright set of liptints, without spending too much money. On the other hand, if you don't like your liptints with a matte finish, or if you have flaky lips or very deep lip lines, then this may not be the best liptint product out there for you. (Don't worry though - Etude House has plenty of other liptints, including liquid tints that have a glossy finish and cream tints that are matte.) All in all, I liked the bright, nearly-neon shades, the high level of pigment, and the weightless if powdery feel.

The Bottom Line: The bright, cheery colours of the Color Lips Fit are highly pigmented and lightweight, but the powdery texture may not sit well with flaky, dry, or heavily lined lips.

  1. Fantasy fit pink is love! And the beige surprisingly looks nice and natural too because it's not to brown and your natural lip color comes through! I try to stay away from stains and matte creams though, my lips are quite dry! Looks great though!

  4. These are so so gorgeous! I love a bright lip. I know lip tints are very people and I can see why. They're very long lasting and don't really smudge xx
