When I tried it, I did find that it did moisturize and refresh my skin, but only temporarily. Like other face mists, this won't replace a daily moisturizer, but is a great way to cool off or just refresh yourself. I'm not sure if I counted "20 Excellent Efficiacies for face, hair and body" as the packaging claims though - to me it was neither better nor worse than any other facial mist I've tried.
When I looked at the ingredients, I saw that there was really just water, and nitrogen. The nitrogen is a propellant, and can also be found in other spray can systems, most notably in the food industry (e.g. cans of whipped cream also use nitrogen for a propellant). Nitrogen is an inert element (fun fact: 78% of the air we breathe is nitrogen! Oxygen is only 21%), so the ingredient that acts on your face is just water. So akin to splashing water on your face, I felt like this product did help to perk up my skin in the short run, but in the long run, I'm doubtful whether it really does everything the advertising claims. I think, like a commenter below mentioned, the best use of this product would be if you were travelling and wanted a quick pick-me-up.
So, would I recommend this? Well, if you're looking for a refreshing face mist, and something to boost your skin's hydration temporarily, and that feels great on the face, then I'd recommend this. It's a good facial mist, and affordably priced, so if you're keen on the product, it's worth checking out. But beyond that, my expectations for any long-term skincare benefits are moderated.
(Product was sent for review. Review is my complete and honest opinion. I am not affiliated with/compensated by the company.)
This just seems odd to me, despite the nitrogen (which as you pointed out isn't anything special) it's just water! Essentially when a person goes to purchase this, they're buying a can of water to spray on their face. I'm somewhat certain that there are better alternatives out there. Very good review!
ReplyDeleteI tried this too & I wasn't a big fan.
ReplyDeleteI've heard these are good for travelling. I personally haven't tried them yet but may not need to as I have oily skin.
ReplyDelete@Iris: You're right, that is one really good use of this product - if you're on the go or travelling (e.g. In a car/plane) this would be a quick and convenient way to refresh your skin :)
DeleteDo you know how it compares to the MAC Fix+-I have used that and was not to happy.. :(
ReplyDelete@Ash: Do you intend to use this to set your makeup, or just for extra hydration? I've seen it used both ways by users, hence the question. From my use of the Bio-essence product, it would offer some extra hydration but probably wouldn't work as well as a makeup setting spray.
DeleteIngredients-wise, the Bio-essence product is just water. The MAC Fix+ is also comprised of mostly water, but also contains other moisturizers and solvents, eg glycerin and butylene glycol. So while both products will probably offer similar hydration (I suspect MAC's effect may be a little longer due to the addition of glycerin), the MAC product world probably perform better as a makeup setting spray. If you just want to remove powdery-ness from your makeup though, both world probably perform in a similar manner. Hope this helps!
Already used it n suprisingly reduce my oily skin n pores..love it!
ReplyDeleteyes, i used this and it reduce my oily skin..my skin feel soo soft and my makeup last long..

ReplyDeleteI agree with you that it did moisturize and refresh skin, but only temporarily. Anyhow, I'm already on second bottle. Mostly use it during travel for a quick refresh. Thanks for the review!
