Anyway, up for the comparison. In the bottle, both polishes look pretty much identical. Same sheer black base, same awesome glitter.
On the nail, they're also pretty much alike. I think they're pretty much dupes, although I feel like Some Like It Haute is a tad blacker(?). It looks a little darker somehow, by a teensy bit, but to be honest I probably wouldn't notice the difference if I wasn't splitting hairs.

Otherwise, both polishes are pretty much identical. Other than the colour, the brushes are different - China Glaze has the typical nail polish brush with straight ends, while Sally Hansen's Gem Crushes have a brush edge that's more curved and more flat. I personally prefer the Sally Hansen brush, but both work well either way. Perhaps if you have a strong preference for one brush over another, this could sway your decision.

So, do you need both? Nope. Which should you choose? Well that would depend on the price and availability of each polish in your area (e.g. if you are not in the USA the Sally Hansen one will be hard to get), as well as your brush preference. If all else fails, toss a coin. Either one is great and won't disappoint. As for me, I am keeping both, because I, uh, "need backups". (I swear it's not my glitter-hoarding tendencies kicking in!)
I'm keeping both of mine, too--for now, at least. :)
ReplyDeleteThe dupiness (is that even a word?) is what kept me from getting the Sally Hansens. I bought some of the ChGs on sale because they're just so fun and cheerful. At least you ended up with a backup of a color you love. :)
ReplyDeleteOMG! They are almost identical. Curious to know which stayed on your nails the longest?
ReplyDeletewe love your site at beyond black beauty
@Rashidah: Both are pretty good on me, they last about maybe 4 days before they start chipping (for me that's normal).
DeleteGorgeous glitz! I recommend Sally Hansen it stay longer than the other brand.
ReplyDeleteAwesome I love posts like these :)
ReplyDeleteI've got so many nail polishes I could probably open a salon yet when there's that teensiest difference between colours, the justification fairy kicks in: because I'll know the difference!
ReplyDeleteThat colour looks awesome and I definitely need to be on the hunt.
Thanks for a great comparison, but please include details on application (smooth or tacky? number of layers? chipping issues?) next time... those are my key deciding factors between brands usually and a gal's gotta discriminate somehow :)
@ShimmerDreamz: Thanks for your feedback! I'll definitely include more on texture and application next time! For these two polishes, I actually didn't have much problems with application, so
DeleteI didn't mention it. Both polishes are glitter so when applying you do need to work to ensure that the glitter won't pool in one spot (like most glitter polishes), but otherwise I didn't have any application problems. Generally China Glaze and Sally Hansen both don't give me any issues, application-wise. Texture for both was also good - both are slightly thick, but not any thicker than your usual glitter polish. Hope this helps!
I like the Sally Hansen. It chips the next day on me unless I use 3 or more coats of a clear. It alsomakes the rough polish feel smooth. My problem, the polish will pop off in one piece as if it's a press on fake nail. Non-glitters don't. If I may, the clear coat I use is NYC Quick Dry in #202 Grand Central Station. Really does dry fast and is very inexpensive. The Gem Crush dries fast too and only need 2or3 coats.
