Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Concentrate Matrix Review and Ingredients Analysis

Estee Lauder's Advanced Night Repair Eye Concentrate Matrix was launched a few weeks back, and of course expectations are pretty high for this new product, because it's an extension of the brands "Advanced Night Repair" line, which houses some of the most iconic Estee Lauder products, such as the Advanced Night Repair Complex, which has become something of a cult product in some skincare circles, with some people trying to find dupes or similar products for it.

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Concentrate Matrix: The latest addition to the Advanced Night Repair line

The new Advanced Night Repair Eye Concentrate Matrix is an eye serum/concentrate that is added to the line, and Estee Lauder claims that the product will hydrate skin "for a full 24 hours with a 2X concentrated infusion of Hyaluronic Acid". Also, like the rest of the Advanced Night Repair line, this product also claims to have anti-aging benefits, to "dramatically reduce the look of lines, wrinkles, puffiness and dark circles." Despite the "Night" in the product name, the product is suitable for both day and night use, and you're supposed to apply the product by using the given massage applicator to roll the product around the eye area.

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Serum Concentrate Matrix Review
Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Concentrate Matrix: The humectants and emollients are selected to give a lightweight texture to the product

From the ingredients list, we can see that this is intended to be a very lightweight moisturizer, with very emollients and skin conditioning agents (Dimethicone, Isohexadecane, Bis-Peg-18 Methyl Ether Dimethyl Silane, Peg-10 Dimethicone, Isopropyl Isostearate, Ppg-15 Stearyl Ether), most of which are silicone-based to ensure a lighwegith texture, and some which also have secondary functions as stabilizers or emulsifiers. There are also humectants (Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Sucrose, Trehalose, Pentylene Glycol, Hydroxyethyl Urea), as well as are some stabilizers (Disteardimonium Hectorite). So from the main ingredients, you can see that this is primarily a lightweight, moisturizing product that would be very optimal for the eye area, and not likely to give milia seeds or any issues.

After this, we have a whole slew of plant extracts (Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Garcinia Mangostana Peel Extract, Anthemis Nobilis (Chamomile) Flower Extract, Hordeum Vulgare (Barley) Extract\Extrait D'Orge, Silybum Marianum (Lady'S Thistle) Extract, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Seed Extract, Betula Alba (Birch) Extract, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract, Morus Bombycis (Mulberry) Root Extract, Poria Cocos Sclerotium Extract, Camelina Sativa Seed Oil, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seedcake), which should really appeal to those who like these types of ingredients. Also of interest are also the ferments and algae extracts, some of which the original Advanced Night Repair was famous for incorporating (Lactobacillus Ferment, Algae Extract, Bifida Ferment Lysate, Yeast Extract\Faex\Extrait De Levure). The other interesting ingredient is Tripeptide-32, which is patented by Estee Lauderfor its ability to "inhibit damage to human keratinocytes due to environmental aggressors" (as a matter of fact, it isn't just Tripeptide-32, but the entire composition that is patented). There's also some other interesting ingredients, such as Caffeine, which is usually found as a de-puffing agent in eye products, as well as a variety of humectants (Sodium Hyaluronate), emollients (Propylene Glycol Dicaprate, Hydrolyzed Algin), as well as preservatives to prevent the product from spoiling (Sodium Dehydroacetate, Potassium Sorbate, Disodium Edta Bht, Phenoxyethanol). Since this is a light, watery product, it's indeed important to have preservatives to ensure the product doesn't spoil as soon as it's opened.

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Concentrate Matrix: A good variety of plant, ferment and algae extracts, as well as some patented ingredients, are also included

So, looking at the formula as a whole, we can see that this is a lightweight moisturizer that is suitable for the eye area - it's formulated to not be thick or oily. It also has a variety of very interesting ingredients that could potentially benefit skin, from plant extracts to ferments (a la the original Advanced Night Repair), to the patented Tripeptide-32 and the general patented formula. So in a way, although this may appear to be a fairly simple moisturizer for the eye - and it is, in a way - it's also formulated with way more bells and whistles than a typical eye serum/concentrate, which is a plus.

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Concentrate Matrix Review Applicator
Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Concentrate Matrix: The product is formulated to be hydrating, while still having a light feel on skin

So, after all that ingredients analysis, how did the product fare? Well, as one might expect from the formula, the texture is that of a gel, and absorbs into skin almost immediately. There wasn't a discernable scent. The applicator stick was quite interesting to me - Estee Lauder bills it as a "custom-designed massage applicator" on their website, but it's really just a little rounded bulb at the end of the stick. It does work for application though, and has the benefit of feeling nice and cooling when the product is applied to the eye area - always a good thing to have in the morning when your eyes are feeling tired! I get too lazy to really "massage" my eye area with it, so I just use a swiping motion with the applicator, and then pat in with my finger.

When I used the Eye Concentrate Matrix, I found that it did do a good job of moisturizing the skin around my eye area, and generally also improving the appearance of my eye area as a whole, including some improvement in the puffiness of my eyes - I guess a combination of caffeine and cooling applicator works for me. It didn't quite help with my undereye circles, although to be fair, undereye circles are a complex thing - they can be caused by any number of causes, from blood vessels to actual skin darkening and so on, so what works for one person may not work for another, just because the causes of their circle darkening could be different. I did find the texture easy to work with and layer under other skincare products and makeup, and as this is a concentrate, it also worked fine if I layered other eye care products on top. I can imagine though, that someone used to very thick, heavy, creamy eye products might be thrown off by the comparatively thinner texture, and if that's the case, you can easily layer another eye cream on top should you still wish to incorporate this in your routine. Finally, the product also didn't trigger any eye irritation or milia seeds, although my eye skin isn't as sensitive as the rest of my face (thankfully eye-skin acne isn't a thing!).

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Review Concentrate Matrix
Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Concentrate Matrix: Overall, a hydrating product with some nice ingredients, although a tad pricey

So, would I recommend the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Concentrate Matrix? I think it's a pretty nice product, and a good serum/concentrate product, especially as part of a broader skincare regime, because it layers nicely under other products. I also like the addition of the ferments and algae extracts, as well as some of the patented ingredients, which indicates that some thought went into formulating the product, and distinguishes it from the other eye serums/concentrates out there in the market. I won't lie though - at S$113 for 15ml, this is pretty pricey, and certainly isn't going to be within everyone's budget. So while I think the formula is generally good, I think the decision to buy or not would probably be down to price.

The Bottom Line: Although a little pricey, the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Concentrate Matrix is formulated to be hydrating, while still lightweight, product for the eye area, and contains a good variety of interesting plant extracts and other ingredients.
